I had back surgery one year ago. Since then I am always mindful of bending over, especially when lifting any heavy weight. So when my grandson, Kobe, asked for a weight rack, I wanted to build something that wouldn’t strain his back. This rack doesn’t require any bending over at all, and is very solid.
For Olympic size weights, 1 ½” PVC works perfect. I angled the drill press platform a few degrees when drilling the holes in the 2×6. Using a miter saw I cut the back end of the PVC at the same angle. Through pilot holes in the PVC, I screwed #8 wood screws into the 2×6 to keep the pipes from moving.
